Gertrude Jekyll is definitely the stingiest blooming English rose I have. When it does bloom, the flowers are huge, deep pink and very fragrant with a damask fragrance.
Gertrude Jekyll was planted in the spring of 1995, on its own roots and has grown from about 10 inches to about three feet in height. It is just 3 long canes with very little branching. I hope it fills out some in 1996.
Well, by the summer of 1998, she was getting near 6 feet high and a much denser shrub of about 40 canes. She's proved to be one of the most cane hardy of my English roses, about the same as Windrush. She puts out a very good spring flush, but only sporadically blooms the rest of the summer.
This plant is on its own roots.
