Graham Thomas is one of the most well known English Roses, most likely for its beautifully formed deep yellow blooms. This rich color does fade quite a bit in a day or two, as do so many roses here with the intense sun. The fragrance in these lovely cupped blooms is a good strong Tea rose scent, which this bee apparently found attractive.
While Graham Thomas is known to get huge and be stingy with its bloom in warmer climates like those of southern California, it behaves differently in my garden near the foothills of Colorado. So far, it hasn't reached more than 4 feet tall, and repeats fairly well all summer long. It doesn't repeat with the same vigor as Mary Rose, but that would be asking quite a bit. It's height is probably kept within bounds by the fact that it isn't the most winter hardy English rose in my garden. I often lose all those parts of the canes that are exposed, which is quite a contrast to the very cane hardy Windrush and Gertrude Jekyll.
This particular plant is a grafted plant.
